  1. From Mr. G's father
These are great questions and I will try to answer some.
I just found out what ugali is and would like to try it with vegetable stew. Americans have similar foods.
There are many industries in the USA - like making cars, computers, baseballs and bats, boats, hats, paper and pencils, hot dogs(ask Mr. G about those) - all kinds of things.
My favorite game is basketball and I like football and baseball too.
I'm not sure we have game reserves but we have national parks where wildlife is protected.
America has 50 states that I guess could be called districts.
America has many, many rivers. Some are very long - over 1000 miles.
There are Muslims who live in America.
Many Americans go to church but not all of them.
We have mountains that go as high as 14,000 feet.
In addition to our National parks we have many parks in most towns. We think having green areas is very important.
Americans love games so we have a great variety - you can find someone to play any game with you.

Are there slums in America? (Diana)
There are slums in America, mostly concentrated in the big cities.

Are there rivers in America? (Hillary)
There are many rivers. We live in near the Potomac River in Washington, DC. People do many activities on this river including boating, kayaking and fishing.

Are there Muslims in America? (Ridhwan)
There are many Muslims in America. And, in most cities there are large communities that have schools, mosques and stores. I have visited a large Muslim community in Atlanta, GA.

Are there parks in America? (Laureen) There are many parks in America. Most cities have parks, and then there are national parks. The Grand Canyon is one park with a deep gorge in the middle. It is beautiful.

  3. Mount McKinley is the highest mountain in north America. It's in Denali national park in Alaska. It's just over 6000 m or 20000 feet

  4. How tall are the mountains?(Ridhwan)
We some beautiful mountain ranges in America. Here in North Carolina we have the Blue Ridge Mountains which are a small part of the Appalachian Mountain Range. I think the tallest mountain in the US is Mt. McKinley in Alaska. It is 20,320 feet tall!
    Great job with your questions!

  5. How many different types of games are there? (Laureen)

I read this to mean games of play for kids. If so, I think there are as many types as there are kids. As the father of a 4 year old daughter, she invents new games every day.

I remember stories of the games my father played with broom sticks and pieces of rubber hoses.

Hopefully there are just as many games in Kenya.

  6. How tall are the mountains? (Ridhwan)
We have some beautiful mountains in America. Here in North Carolina we have the Blue Ridge Mountains which are a small part of a huge mountain range called the Appalachians. The highest peak is Mount Mitchell at 6684 feet. I think the tallest mountain in the US is Mt. McKinley in Alaska at 20320 feet! Do you have mountains in Kenya?
    good job on your questions!

  8. I have never eaten ugali, Laureen and Sharon, but I did have fufu when I was in Togo. I think fufu is alot like ugali, but it is made with cassave instead of corn. When Maria and James get home, we will go to eat at a Kenyan restaurant near our house and I may get to eat ugali then!

As Wonya said, there are many Muslims in America. Because America was founded on the belief that people should be free to worship as they wish, there are mosques, synagogues and churches all over this country. In Washington DC, where Maria and James live, there is a beautiful mosque, The Islamic Center. It is the largest mosque in America and has a minaret that is 162 feet tall.

America is divided into states, as Mr. G's father said. There are 50 states. Some are huge like Texas and California, and some are very small like Rhode Island and Delaware. And those of us who live in Washington DC are not a state at all, even though we pay taxes and send our citizens into the milatary like every other state does. There are more people who live in Washington DC than live in the state of Wyoming (plus we have our favorite resident, Barack Obama!).
